Since it was Christmas yesterday, we were spending time with our family. Last week, we planned to make candied popcorn and pavlova, but that did not succeed. Despite having simple steps, we were stuck at making the caramel for the candied popcorn for over two hours, and let's just say nobody wants to know how the caramel we made tasted… Another problem was that some popcorn did not pop, and out of the ten bags that we used, only eight popped. For the first batch of the caramel, we found it too sugary. Next, we noticed that we did not have corn syrup, so we tried to improvise and use a different procedure for the second batch. It was going well until the sugar mixture started to burn. When we noticed it, it was too late to save, and it ended up tasting bitter. We also forgot that Wednesday was the Winter Solstice, and we had to be home with our families. so we were unable to proceed with the dessert. We also ran out of sugar so we thought it was time to give up then. Our goal is to make a successful dessert over the Winter Break, but that might not happen because of other unforeseeable reasons. I still don’t know when I will recover from being sick so I rather not get Vanessa sick as well. Our plan was to create Christmas-themed desserts for the month of December but since that is out of the window, we’re probably not continuing that path. At the same time, we would like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season.
