We had most of the ingredients that was needed to make the scones except for dried blueberries, green food coloring, and unsalted butter. We decided to get these ingredients at Stop & Shop on Wednesday after school. You would think three ingredients would be quick to get, but guess again! Unfortunately, we became distracted by other stuff and it took more than a hour to get the things that we needed. The recipe called for dried blueberries, but we found out that it was way over our budget when we found the item. Instead, we decided to purchase regular blueberries to use instead. I mean, they are both blueberries… right?
We decided that we will make the scones on Thursday at my house because Friday is St. Patrick’ Day, but Vanessa forgot to bring an essential ingredient - all purpose flour. How can you make scones without flour? We were both tired and didn’t want to go purchase the flour from somewhere, so we were at a state of panic. Well, I mean I have a excuse - I mean reason. I have to take care of my little sister. Vanessa? She said she was too lazy. We were calling our friends who lived close by to see if they have flour to spare to us. As you might’ve guessed, they hung up on us. Some friends they are… Luckily, my best friend Larry and Harry said they did. When I told them that I had to stay home to watch over my sister (not an excuse of course), they came over with the flour. They even decided to stay over to help us!

The steps to make the scones weren’t too hard, but not surprisingly, we messed up. The mixture was too wet and weren’t able to shape it. We kinda gave up and left it in the oven to bake. After baking two and a half batches for the class, we found out that we were suppose to put the blueberries last so it won’t be crushed. The crushed blueberries was one of the reason why the mixture was so soggy. In addition, we learned that we had to freeze the scones so we can shape it. We decided that Vanessa will bring the scones in on Friday to pass to the class, but she forgot… At least Vanessa gave the scones to a few of our friends to try, but then again, I guess it was not a bad thing that the class didn’t get a try because it didn’t taste so good. Our friends claimed that it was too bland (not enough sugar was used), and the first batch was better than the second one, because the first set contained more blueberries (which gave it more flavor) while the second batch was too dry (a result of adding extra flour to the dough). I guess we tried something a bit beyond our capability when we decided to make scones from scratch. Hopefully, we will better next time.
