History of Brigadeiros

Brigadeiros is a type of dessert that is made of condensed milk and cocoa powder as the primary ingredients. Other ingredients that are used are butter and chocolate sprinkles, but these can be altered in the recipe. This type of traditional dessert is made since the 1940s, however, the location and the time when this was invented is unknown. In Brazil, this type of dessert is commonly seen in special events such as wedding and birthdays, and it is sold at most bakeries and cafes around the country. Brigadeiros is an important part of Brazilian culture because anyone can enjoy eating this dessert. While the origin is shrouded in controversy and mystery, some speculate that the dessert was invented in Brazil after World War II when it was difficult to find fresh milk and sugar to make any type of desserts. It is said that the dessert got its name from a Brazilian politician and Air Force Brigadier, Eduardo Gomes, who ran for President in 1946. We are planning to create this dessert in the coming weeks for our Passion Project. Originally, we were planning to create brigadeiros this weekend, but Vanessa had tutoring lessons that kept her occupied this weekend. To conclude our Passion Project, we will be doing another dessert in addition to brigadeiros, however, we might not be doing the mirror cakes as the final dessert.
