For our first dessert, we thought the cinnamon rolls weren’t horrible; at least it wasn’t charcoal black. Last Thursday, we decided to make the cinnamon rolls and present them to our peers to critique on Friday. Making the dessert was an intriguing experience, and for me, it was the first time ever using the oven. Surprising it might be, but my family doesn’t use the oven as well. This time around, Vanessa was the main chef and I was her assistant, but being the sleep-deprived person I am, I fell asleep halfway through the process. “Whoops.” Instead, I took some photos at the beginning before I passed out. My 5 years old sister tried to help whenever it was possible, and perhaps she was a better assistant than me. Vanessa involved my sister in the process by giving her pieces of dough to let her play with, which kept her highly entertained. After making sure she washed her hands properly, my sister was able to sprinkle on the sugar and cinnamon mix onto the rolled out dough. When the desserts were finally done, a great deal of relief washed over us since we had to work on multiple assignments and study for quizzes that was on Friday. Unfortunately, with Mrs. Casimiro’s absence and the presence of a quiz, we weren’t able to share the dessert with the whole class as planned. Instead, we gave it out to some of our friends for their opinions. While their opinions might be biased because they want to be nice to us, it was overall a positive response. We know that there is room to improve, and we will do so before attempting to make a dessert of a higher difficulty.

As for the opinions, Carmen took a bite and declared that there was not enough cinnamon; Yong Na agreed with her and commented that it was also dry (perhaps it was due to that fact that the rolls were made the previous day before). Elena said it was a really good pastry, although she may have said that because she did not have lunch that day. Shannon also commented that the rolls were a bit dry, had a bouncy texture and an inconsistent cinnamon flavor throughout, but was tasty as a whole. One was given to Jason, but unfortunately, he did not express his opinion and just ate it silently.
